Blues Music Legend Stevie Hawkins Earns A Nomination In The 2023 Hollywood Independent Music Awards (HIMAwards)
Emphasis Records recording artist Stevie Hawkins celebrates exciting news with the announcement of his nomination for 'Blues Artist' for his recent single "Movin’ Down The Road" in the 2023 Hollywood Independent Music Awards (HIMAwards). The 2023 HIMAwards event will take place on August 17, 2023, at The Avalon in the entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood, California. The evening will feature live performances, a VIP dinner banquet, celebrity presenters, a red carpet, and award presentations.
Stevie Hawkins plays an important role in the future of blues music. He sings and plays with edge, vitality, and verve. Not only does he represent maintaining the integrity and legacy of past great American blues artists, but he also represents an example and creative growth for the next generation of real American blues artists. In my opinion, he is one of the most expressive undiscovered vocalists and drummers of his generation, selling the emotion of every line he sings and treating the songs he sings and plays like ecosystems that stretch and blossom after tilling and sunlight. Stevie is way overdue the recognition that he deserves, and we at Emphasis Records intend to change that now.
The HIMAwards nomination follows Hawkins winning seven awards in the Indie Music Channel Awards (Hollywood): 'Best Blues Artist', 'Best Live Blues Performance', 'Best Blues Producer', 'Best Songwriter (Blues)', 'Best Live Performance (Rock)', 'Producer of the Year', and 'Artist of the Year'.
The Hollywood Independent Music Awards is a premier global platform for independent music. Emerging and established artists, songwriters, composers, and audio recording professionals around the world are recognized for outstanding contributions and content creation. Founded by Brent Harvey, Executive Producer of the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, the HIMAwards Advisory Board is composed of some of the industry’s most respected and seasoned professionals.
The staff at Emphasis Records is proud this talented and hard-working artist is recognized for his work. Congratulations, Stevie Hawkins!

Simple enough it’s genius - a hooky Brit-Pop tune that you’ll be humming for the rest of the day. Mining the supremely melodic format of bands like the Ramones, the vocal cadences of Bay City Rollers, love ‘em or hate ‘em, - when glam rock dictates the tempo and meets Beatlemania for pop source material it all culminates in one very catchy single.
This is a good time, sing-a-long that celebrates classic power pop in an era of mediocre auto-tune sameness. Reminiscent of a lost youth and teenage crush, this is no bubble gum but rather, a pop anthem that has been long since lost - “You Are My Life” evokes a melodicism that’s nostalgic - it’s that good!
And don’t let the pop hooks fool you - the musical twists are a swirl of sound, a style statement that divulges the serious musicians stamped all over this tune. Their above average ability molds the aesthetic, wrapping itself around a beat which will compel you to tap along to the rhythms from beginning to end.

New Celtic/Folk album "Old Men In Hats" by John Breen
On this long awaited follow up to his 2014 album, John Breen's clear, expressive and emotional voice is captivating, making these tracks of eclectic self-penned tunes, original and traditional songs, an enjoyable listen and well worth the wait.
From rhythmic cuts that will get your toes tapping (Rosemary Bailey) to John's engaging vocal nuances on stellar ballads (Ringsend Rose, Old Man), and boosted by several pre-eminent Irish musicians to include: band member Mick Redmond (well crafted mandolin and banjo influences throughout), accordion and whistle accompaniments by Brian Doyle, driving bodhran beats from Peter Walker (check out Maggie), world champion Irish piper Larry Cullen, and the talented tin whistler Tommy Breen (of Boru and Fenian Folk) contributing a fine solo instrumental (Eagan's Polka), this album delivers magical vocal and musical performances.
